An emergency situation affects various course-delivery models differently. Courses that are already online can continue to be taught without interruption. Blended courses (a course that includes both online and face-to-face instruction) will require the face-to-face portion to be moved online. Courses that are entirely face-to-face will require a more robust transition, depending on the length of time the course will need to be moved online.

Guidelines

Below are guidelines for transitioning courses based on delivery model:

Online courses: Continue teaching the course as usual.

Blended courses: Shift the face-to-face portion of the course to online.

Face-to-Face courses:

Scenario 1, Short-term: (Face-to-face classes are moved online for a short time, such as for a week): You may have the option to provide your class content in a written format.  In this case, it is probably easiest to create an email with attachments (written lecture, PowerPoint files, etc.) and/or hyperlinks to web content that you send to the whole class. 

Scenario 2, Long term: (Face-to-face classes are moved online for an indefinite period of time): In addition to emails containing lecture notes, it will be important to build content within Canvas. This includes assignments, modules, links to websites, etc. for the student to utilize and for the faculty member to receive and provide feedback on coursework. Directory of Peer Experts is now available in the Faculty Development Module.

Click in and you will find a great collection of colleagues who have volunteered to give you one-to-one assistance, answer your questions, share their examples. It's arranged by topic, so you can first find your problem, then someone likely in your discipline or someone you know, and send them an email to make a connection. From there, the two of you can decide how to engage, just talk on the phone or arrange a show/tell in zoom.
